Black Redstart - City Hall, Cardiff : 3rd March 2024

On Sunday 3rd March myself and good friend and fellow 'togger' Dave Gilbert met up and paid a visit to the City Hall in Cardiff in an attempt to catch up with the stunning male Black Redstart that has been over-wintering there and showing well on and off.

It was a beautiful sunny Spring day, too sunny for photography if anything and it didn't take me long to spot the bird on one of the stone ledges.

The bird was very confiding and we both 'filled our boots as the bird continued to show really well.

Also present was one of the resident Peregrine Falcons which favoured perching on the large stone dragon on the roof of the building, it made a kill which looked like a Feral Pigeon which we didn't see whilst watching the redstart and proceeded to enjoy it's meal whilst we looked on.
