Waxwings : Rogerstone, Nr Newport - New Year's Day Return Visit : 1st January 2024

As Jenson Dave Gilbert's 13 year old grandson had never seen a Waxwing previously the three of us decided to meet up and return to Rogerstone on a gloomy and showery New Year morning, Dave and Jenson both year list so it would be a great bird to start off the year.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a rather large crowd watching the birds feeding in the same tree as on our previous visit, it was nice to bump into and chat with Mark Dutfield, Paul Bowden, Martin Bevan and Phil Hill amongst others.

Our chats though were soon curtailed by a heavy shower and we took shelter in Dave's van for 15-20 minutes.

Once the rain had stopped we were treated to a few visits by the birds before leaving to visit Llanishen/Lisvane Reservoirs where we managed to see the female Ring-necked Duck, Great Northern Diver and a bonus Common Kingfisher.

Here are a few more Waxwing images from the day, excuse the green cable and lights, the tree had been decorated for Christmas......
