Another "Plastic" duck? Green Winged Teal
Loitering with several hundred ordinary Teal at Slimbridge, was this Yank. So why is this wild, whilst the American Wigeon and Wood Duck in Cardiff aren't?
Other highlights included 70 odd European White-Fronts, 1 Tundra Bean Goose, 100s of Golden Plover and Lapwings, 1 Spotshank, 1 Ruff, 2 Peregrines, Kingfisher, and a grey "Siberian" Chiffchaff.

I'm b*gg%$ed if I know the criteria used.
I guess the American wigeon is in doubt because it was on its own in the middle of summer, rather than with a winter flock of our own wigeon.
Anyway, marbled duck has a tick next to it in my notebook, and I know Dan has ruddy duck in his book, possibly black swan too, but has he been for Margam mandarins yet? ;-)
Been to Margam and dipped on Mandarin. Even a desperate year Glamorgan year lister like me couldn't tick the unusual hybrids present on the pool. There didn't appear to be one pure blood duck or goose present.
My Glamorgan total for this year does not (yet) include the American Wigeon. I know Jeff is ticking it (as has George Chapell). I'd like your opinion on the matter - something to discuss over our Christmas get together perhaps?
Dipped the Cardiff Bay American wigeon a few times, saw the wood duck. Has a decision been made by the rarities committee? Do we care?
Shall I nip to Cannop Ponds with a large net and a box? A free flying Mandarin could then appear at a time and place of your choosing (Lis/Llan?). If it flew off immediately, so much the better....
Tim, please bring back as many Mandarins as you can stuff in the boot of your car. Deposit one each in Cardiff, RCT, Bridgend, VoG, Merthyr and Caerphilly.
