Porthcawl, KNNR + Parc Slip

A few images from a day out with friend and fellow 'togger' Dave Gilbert and his grandson Jenson in early February 2023 visiting Porthcawl, KNNR and Parc Slip, weather and light wasn't great but we made the most of a dry but cold day........

Local Feeding Station

A few images of other species visiting the feeders when the Willow Tits unfortunately didn't show........

Slavonion Grebe : KNNR

I made a visit to Kenfig Pool on 21st January 2023 in the hope of photographing the winter plumage Slavonion Grebe that had been present for a few days.

It was my second visit having sussed out on my first visit that the bird was spending all of it's time near the reeds at the north end of the pool.

I found myself an open position at the north end and managed some 'record shots' as the bird unfortunately didn't come close enough for anything more meaningful.......

Local Willow Tits

I made one of a number of visits to our local feeding station in early January 2023 to top up the feeders in the hope of seeing and photographing one of our local Willow Tits.

One or possibly two duly obliged but were coming straight to the feeders and not perching up on a nice rustic branch which I had hoped for.

Anyway, I managed a few images and it was nice to see that the birds are still around....

WOS Photography Competition 2022

Back in December 2022 I entered the WOS Photography Competition for bird photographs taken in Wales throughout the year 2022.

There were three categories namely General, Flocks and an under 21 year old section which I didn't quite qualify for !!

In mid-January this year I received an e-mail advising me that my Little Owl portrait had secured me the runner-up spot in the General category and my Ring-necked Ducks and Storm Petrels had achieved both runner-up and third place in the Flocks category.

The competition has been running for three years and this was my first time of entering, to say I was thrilled was an understatement.

My prizes were £80 worth of NHBS book tokens and a free membership of WOS for 2023 worth £30 which I will continue to keep up in the coming years.

A copy of the brand new edition of the Collins Bird Guide was one of my choices together with the BTO Guide to making nest boxes, and a few others.

Suffice to say I will be entering again this year, below are the photos that did well for me in 2022 :-
