As this winter's Bohemian Waxwing irruption moved slowly further South-West a small group were eventually found feeding on Rowan berries on a new housing estate namely Jubilee Parc at Rogerstone, Nr Newport.
As this was not too far to travel myself and good friend and fellow birder/togger Dave Gilbert decided to pay a visit on the afternoon of Friday 29th December.
Arriving we found a large party of 'toggers' present as is the norm nowadays, some who I knew and lots more that I didn't.
Most had never seen a Waxwing before having only taken up the hobby fairly recently during Covid so did not see the last irruption in 2017.
The birds were feeding on a yellow berried Rowan tree just inside the boundary wall of a resident's rear garden and were easily viewable from the pavement/road outside the property.
Typically of Waxwings they would briefly visit to feed and then fly off a distance to another large tree to digest their meal.
We stayed long enough for a few visits and managed some reasonable photos in the gloomy light.
We just about left ourselves enough time to visit Barry to see the two Cattle Egrets in the field across the road from McDonalds but view was all we did as they were too distant for any meaningful photos.
Here are some images of the Waxwings........
