Prediction - 210 for 2005!

Having reviewed my year list now, I'm more confident of getting over 200. With some luck and time in the field there's about 20 species I should still get this year which will take me to 210 - my best year so far. Species I should get include:
  • Red-throated Diver
  • Bewick's Swan
  • Whooper Swan
  • White-fronted Goose
  • Pink-footed Goose
  • Smew
  • Marsh Harrier
  • Purple Sandpiper
  • Jack Snipe
  • Black Redstart
  • Willow Tit
  • Marsh Tit
  • Crossbill
There's a chance of Great Northern Diver and Ring-billed, Glaucous and Iceland gulls, a surprise or two including a few other northern species given the predicted cold winter.

Bewicks will be at Slimbridge v soon. A family of wild Whoopers winter at Penclacwdd, with the captive ones. There have been 2 wild PF Geese at Slimbridge, but usually with the captive ones. R T Divers should be off Whiteford Point, and possibly BT and GN, JS should be on the saltmarsh there if you have wellies! I will be looking for Purp Sands, Ogmore?
Xbills are about. Try near Ystradfellte, north of Hirwaun.

Thanks Tim

I should get Crossbill near home soon. I just need to get out. Llanwonno is a good bet. Yes, another Slimbridge trip is on the cards as soon as the wildfowl come in. I missed the white-fronts there on Saturday while I was trying to keep Alec entertained.

I hope to get to Whiteford Burrows in the next month or so. Maybe get some good views of harriers and owls at Llanrhidian as well.

Could get Black Redstart at Dunraven or Ogmore while bagging Purple Sandpipers and come to think of it, there's Chough down that way too.
